South African Biltong Soup

Ingredients
- 3 Cups Water
- 1/3 Cup THRIVE Chopped Onions - Freeze Dried
- 1 Bay Leaf
- 1 Cup THRIVE Mushroom Pieces - Freeze Dried
- 1 Cup THRIVE Potato Dices - Freeze Dried
- 1 Cup THRIVE Green Peas - Freeze Dried
- 1 Tbsp THRIVE Butter Powder - Reconstituted with water.
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 Cup THRIVE Béchamel (Creamy White Sauce)
- 2 Cups Light Whipping Cream
- 6 Tbsp THRIVE Instant Milk with water to make 2 Cups Milk
- 1 Cup THRIVE Shredded Cheddar Cheese - Freeze Dried reconstituted
- 2 Cups Shaved Biltong/Beef Jerky
Directions
- Add water to sauce pan with onion, bay leaf, mushroom pieces, potato and green peas. Bring to a boil and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat, add butter, pepper, and steep for 10 minutes. Remove bay leaf.
- Whisk in Bechamel powder. Bring to boil and simmer 3-4 minutes until thickened. Lower heat to simmer.
- Add cream and cheddar cheese. Stir until cheese is melted and smooth.
- Shave or dice jerky into very small pieces and stir into the sauce.
- Add 2 cups of milk to thin out to desired consistency.
- Garnish with Bilton slivers and shredded cheese. Serve with toast.
- Substitute beef jerky for Biltong, chipped dried beef, sausage crumbles, diced ham or any meat of your choice to enjoy this rich creamy dish.
